My poem ‘It Happens Just Like That’ was published in the 2023 County Lines Literary Journal by the Franklin County Arts Council in the piedmont of North Carolina near my hometown. This poem is a dear one to my heart as it was written in the fall as the silver maples were putting on quite a show in their transition from summer with big billowing golden leaves swirling at my feet. I remember the day those leaves were falling distinctly, not long after my Bella girl had transitioned from this Earthly plane. Life felt so stark and fleeting there with me, the spirits speaking through nature as they do so well.
