I’m a communicator, writer, and online marketing content creator and strategist. I apply writing in the online space in a way that is engaging, authentic and effective for artists, entrepreneurs, and businesses. I’ve spent the past nine years working in partnership with small businesses in Western North Carolina, helping them to clarify their goals and better understand online tools that support and uplift their work.
It was mid-way through my undergraduate degree in communication at UNC Asheville that I realized my skills as a writer and communicator would be needed in many different capacities than I expected in the increasingly digital world. So I began to hone in on how to apply storytelling and journalistic techniques for small businesses in the online space to help them define and shapeshift with their story while supporting their goals in fundraising, increasing awareness, product sales and further engagement within their communities. I began my career with a local online marketing agency in Asheville, N.C. in 2011 and sharpened those skills, working alongside regional businesses and nonprofit organizations that aligned with shared values in environmental sustainability, local economics, social justice and more.
My work takes many forms.
Social Media: Social media content creation, strategy, outreach, advertising, and account management
Blog Writing: Longer form content creation that supports the story-telling component in answering questions related to your craft, why and how you do your work, community partnerships and more.
Public Relations: Press release writing and outreach to local/regional press
Photography: Supportive brand photography for social media (events, behind the scenes photos for social), also work in tandem with several professional photographers for higher resolution product photography
Crowdfunding Campaigns: Social media content creator, strategist and co-director of several of WNC’s most successful crowdfunding campaigns during my time with JB Media including local, sustainable clothing designer Appalatch, electric bike manufacturer OutriderUSA, and local tempeh makers Smiling Hara. I also acted as artistic director and strategist for local artist Phil Cheney and the successful funding of his artwork being made into a coloring book.
Freelance Writing: I write freelance for local and regional publications around topics I’m passionate about including Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine, The Mountain Xpress and The Laurel of Asheville.
Creative Fiction: I enjoy writing creative fiction and fantastical short stories in my spare time.
